Summary
We would like Jason's Law to be introduced which would Require all police forces to assign trained Family Liaison Officers to every family bereaved by suicide, which could help ensure consistent support, communication, and guidance during investigations, inquests, and the immediate aftermath. Thousands of families devastated by suicide may navigate complex investigations, inquests, and media attention alone, while homicide/road death families receive Family Liaison Officers. The Commons Health Committee identified this gap in 2017, noting suicide bereaved families lack standard FLO support. We think this requirement would end this inequality, mandating FLO support for all suicide bereaved families using existing resources fairly.
