Summary
We feel the Highway Code updates don’t go far enough for vulnerable road users. We believe the 2-metre distance when passing cyclists, horse riders or carriage drivers cannot be proven. We also feel the police do not enforce the code and we are not taken seriously enough when reporting incidents. We urge the Government to: 1) Review the Highway Code to consider greater legal protections for horse riders, carriage drivers and cyclists. 2) Fund a national awareness campaign on TV to educate the general public on the Highway Code.
