Summary
At present only MPs can be recalled by their electors in specific circumstances. There is no mechanism for voters to remove local councillors. We think there needs to be legislation covering all elected local government representatives and have unacceptable non-attendance as a reason for a recall. We are concerned that it is possible to be elected to local government and not attend meetings/committees yet still be paid an allowance. Although the Local Government Code of Conduct allows for sanctions, there is no recall mechanism for electors.
