Summary
We want the Government to introduce a law making it illegal for MPs, ministers, and political parties to knowingly use false or misleading information and statistics in speeches, campaigns, and official documents. There should be clear penalties and accountability for breaches. We believe trust in politics is falling, and false information damages democracy. Voters should be able to rely on politicians to provide accurate facts when making decisions. By holding politicians legally accountable for deliberate misinformation, we think the Government can strengthen democracy, improve transparency, and rebuild public trust. Other professions, such as doctors, lawyers, and financial advisors, face consequences if they provide false information. Politicians should be held accountable.
