Summary

The aim of this petition is to request the government to change the threshold for the High Income Child Benefit Charge (HICBC) from the current individual £60K income to a household income of £120K. Child Benefit is claimed and used by families/households, however, the HICBC is assessed on an individual income of £60K or more within any given household. That means a two-parent household could earn up to £120K (up to £60K each) before being eligible for the charge, however, a two-parent or single parent household that relies on the income of one parent earning anything over £60K is obligated to pay the HICBC. We think this is unfair and negates the value of claiming child benefit.
