Legislate for a UK-wide referendum on the voting system for House of Commons elections, with two options: Replace First Past the Post with proportional representation using the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system, or keep First Past The Post. It can produce large majorities in the House of Commons from a minority of votes and makes voters' influence depend on where they live. In 2024 the largest party won 63% of seats on 33.7% of votes, while smaller parties won far fewer seats than their vote shares, that meant ~24k votes per Labour MP, ~461k votes per Green MP, and ~824k per Reform MP. PR-STV makes votes count more equally, keeps local representation and reduces the need for tactical voting.
