Summary

Introduce regulations to cap charges for essential veterinary emergency treatments carried out outside normal working hours, ensuring fees are fair, transparent, and proportionate, by scrapping excessive mark-up prices. Pet owners are being charged disproportionately high fees for basic veterinary treatments outside normal hours. While higher costs for emergency care are expected, many practices charge 200–300% more for routine procedures such as blood tests and IV fluids. These costs place owners under severe financial pressure, sometimes forcing them to surrender or euthanise pets. With many dogs/cats having to be given up or just abandoned on the streets.
