Summary
We ask the Government to issue a formal apology for the Balfour Declaration and Britain’s actions in Mandate-era Palestine, and to commit to funding educational initiatives that acknowledge this history. This should include public resources and curriculum support reflecting Britain’s role. We believe Britain’s policies from 1917-1948 shaped events that led to the displacement of Palestinians and left a legacy still felt today. Many MPs, legal experts and historians have argued that Britain failed to uphold the rights of the Palestinian population. A formal apology could offer symbolic justice, while investment in education - both in the UK and internationally- could ensure this history is accurately taught, understood, and not forgotten by future generations.
