Summary
We are concerned that the two-tier Lyme test can give some false negatives, including early on or in immunosuppressed people. We urge a review of broader, potentially more accurate tests to detect all strains. We think this will help prepare for future Lyme vaccines and ensure more timely treatment. Lyme symptoms can vary in the body, ranging from person to person. Some research has suggested that neurological symptoms are associated like anxiety, ocd, psychosis, Parkinson’s, dementia. Joint issues which may appear to be rheumatoid arthritis can be Lyme arthritis needing different treatment. Heart issues like Lyme carditis, or other co-infections of Lyme like Babesia & bartonella, may also be missed in testing. We ask for a review of alternatives which can cover multiple strains with a higher accuracy.
