Summary
We are calling for a legal requirement that at least one fully trained member of staff in bereavement and pregnancy loss support is present at all times in private scan clinics, with the knowledge to guide families through their next steps. On April 1st 26, we attended a private clinic filled with excitement, expecting to see our baby at 9 weeks and 4 days pregnant. Instead, we were told that our baby’s heartbeat had stopped at 7 weeks and 3 days - a miscarriage with no symptoms. We were placed alone in a small side room. There was no trained professional to support us, no one to guide us through what had just happened, and no one who could answer the many questions we were left with.
