Summary
We believe veterinary costs have risen significantly in recent years, placing financial pressure on pet owners and risking animal welfare when treatment becomes unaffordable. Regulate veterinary care costs, such as requiring transparent pricing, capping medicine markups and creating a Veterinary Ombudsman. We feel veterinary costs have risen sharply, making essential care unaffordable for many pet owners and risking animal welfare. In some cases, routine procedures and emergency treatment for pets can cost more than equivalent surgeries for humans. We believe many practices also lack clear pricing, while medicine markups and prescription fees increase costs further. Following concerns raised by the Competition and Markets Authority, we believe stronger regulation is needed.
