Summary

The UK Government should negotiate a bilateral agreement with Spain allowing UK citizens to stay in Spain for longer than 90 days without requiring residency or complex visa applications. Since Brexit, UK citizens are restricted by the Schengen 90/180-day rule, which has negatively affected many. Since Brexit, UK citizens are restricted by the Schengen 90/180-day rule, which has negatively affected retirees, second-home owners, remote workers, long-stay tourists and families with ties to Spain. Spain is one of the most popular destinations for British citizens, and many contribute significantly to local economies through tourism, property ownership and spending. We believe the UK Government should seek a reciprocal agreement with Spain similar to arrangements some countries have.
