HAMDT 370 (97th)

A substitute amendment to the Daschle amendment. The English amendment provides that all imported meat and meat products of cattle, sheep, swine, goats, horses, mules or other equines be subject to inspection, sanitary, species verification, and residue standards applied to such things produced in the U.S. Also meat or meat food products cannot be imported which have been produced using agricultural chemicals or animal drugs that are prohibited in the U.S. or which render the product adulterated. The President may rescind the restriction relating to prohibited drugs and chemicals if he finds the restriction damages exportation of agricultural products from the U.S. He must report this ten days before the effective date of the rescission.
