HAMDT 846 (98th)

The Committee on Agriculture amendment no. 1 relating to frequency of employment verification for agricultural employees. The amendment provides that employers need only verify that their employees are legally entitled to work in the U.S. after certain intervals, instead of each time they are hired. It sets the following intervals: 1) U.S. citizens or nationals, 5 years 2) legal aliens for permanent residence, 3 years, 3) nonimmigrants, up to one year, and 4) other aliens, up to three years. The last two are to be set by the Attorney General.
