Indian Claims Act of 1982

Summary

Authorizes Indian tribes, after December 31, 1982, to file legal suits in their own behalf or on behalf of their members with respect to any legal claim the United States could have or should have filed for such Indians prior to such date. Authorizes any individual tribal member to intervene on his own behalf or sever his claim from such tribal action. Directs the Secretary of the Interior and the Attorney General, upon request, to provide such Indian or Indian tribe with all relevant research gathered by the United States in the documentation of such claims. Allows an Indian tribe to retain for its own use, after legal expenses, a sum not to exceed 25 percent of any monetary recovery.
