Summary

National Campsite Assistance Act - Authorizes the Secretary of the Interior to cooperate with the States, through their respective parks and planning departments, in campsite development projects and maintenance of projects set forth under this Act. Imposes upon the sale by the manufacturer, producer, and/or importer of travel trailers, fifth wheel trailers, camper trailers, truck campers, pick-up covers, motor homes, and/or tents, a tax equivalent to 4 percent of the price for which each is sold. States that an amount equal to all revenues accruing each fiscal year from the tax imposed on articles under this Act shall be converted into a fund in the Treasury of the United States to be known as the Federal Aid to National Campsite Fund. Sets forth a formula whereby such revenues shall be apportioned among the several States to carry out the purposes of this Act. Establishes procedures for State parks and planning departments to submit programs and projects to the Secretary for his approval. States that when the Secretary finds that any campsite development project approved by him has been completed he shall pay to the proper authority of such State the amount set aside for such project. States that any construction work and labor in State shall be performed in accordance with its laws and under the direct supervision of the State parks and planning department, subject to the inspection and approval of the Secretary. Authorizes the Secretary to make rules and regulations for carrying out the provisions of this Act.
