Summary
Amends the Great Lakes Fisheries Act of 1956 to require the United States Section of the Great Lakes Fishery Commission to prepare a preliminary report containing (1) a description of each Great Lakes fishery, (2) a description and an assessment of Great Lakes conservation and management being implemented by the States involved in the fishery, (3) an evaluation of each Great Lakes fishery maximum yield, water and air pollution effects on such fisheries, and potential for new fisheries, and (4) recommendations for conservation and management actions which should be implemented by the Great Lakes States. Stipulates that each Great Lakes State which establishes and implements a fisheries monitoring program meeting the requirements of this Act shall be eligible for funds appropriated pursuant to this Act. Authorizes the appropriation of $50,000,000 to construct the Great Lakes fish hatcheries. Authorizes the Secretary of the Interior to provide for the construction, and to select the locations, of such fish hatcheries.
