Summary

Railroad and Transit Sabotage Prevention Act of 1997 - Prohibits and sets penalties for: (1) interference with railroad signal systems; (2) hazardous materials transportation sabotage (providing for the death penalty in certain cases); and (3) carrying or possessing a firearm or any explosive (with certain exceptions) aboard a passenger train or in a rail passenger terminal facility without previously obtaining the permission of the owner of such train or facility. Revises the Federal criminal code with respect to railroad sabotage to: (1) cover sabotage of any mass transit operation; and (2) subject perpetrators to the death penalty.
