Summary
Famine Prevention Act - Provides, under the Agricultural Trade Development and Assistance Act, that in order to guarantee that agricultural commodities may be made available for humanitarian purposes, the Commodity Credit Corporation is authorized to acquire agricultural commodities having a total cost of not to exceed $300,000,000 in any calendar year. Establishes in the Department of Agriculture an Office of International Agricultural Science and Education to be responsible for agricultural programs to assist developing countries. Prescribes the procedure whereby developing countries can establish eligibility for commodities. Authorizes such sums as required for carrying out the establishment of the Office and eligibility establishment provisions of this Act. (Amends 7 U.S.C. 1721).
