Summary

Forest Products and Port Renewal Act of 1987 - Amends the Merchant Marine Act, 1920 to suspend, with regard to the transportation of forest products to the east and gulf coasts and to the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico from the States of Oregon, Washington, California, and Alaska, the provision which prohibits use of vessels other than those built in the United States and documented under U.S. laws, under certain circumstances, when the Secretary of Commerce determines there are no domestic vessels reasonably available for such transportation. Prohibits the application of any Federal law to a water carrier under a suspension provided for in this Act, unless such law applied to the carrier before such suspension.
