Summary

District of Columbia Judicial Appointment Authority Act of 1985 - Amends the District of Columbia Self-Government and Government Reorganization Act to provide that the Mayor of the District of Columbia shall nominate and, by and with the advice and consent of the District of Columbia Council, appoint all judges of the District of Columbia courts. Requires the Mayor to nominate candidates from a list of individuals recommended to him by the District of Columbia Judicial Nomination Commission. Specifies minimum qualifications and residency requirements for individuals to be nominated or appointed a judge of a District of Columbia court. Specifies requirements and procedures for the reappointment of sitting judges. Establishes a District of Columbia Judicial Nomination Commission to recommend individuals for appointment as judges of District of Columbia courts. Sets forth minimum requirements for membership and procedures for appointment to such Commission. Specifies procedures for the selection and the submission of nominees to the Mayor for appointment as judges. Provides for the reorganization of the District of Columbia Commission on Judicial Disabilities and Tenure.
