Summary

Magnet School Assistance Act - Establishes, within the Office of Education, the Office of Magnet Schools. Defines Magnet School as a school which enrolls students on a volunteer basis from geographic attendance areas which are designed to achieve desegregation. Makes it the duty of such Office to administer a program of encouraging the voluntary integration of school systems through payment of Federal financial assistance. Prohibits the implementation of judicially ordered busing during any period in which a school system is applying for or receiving financial assistance under such program of assisting voluntary integration. Authorizes to be appropriated such sums as are necessary for the purpose of carrying out this Act.
