Summary
Public Works Employment Act of 1983 - Amends the Local Public Works Capital Development and Investment Act of 1976 to authorize making grants under such Act for projects having as their principal purpose the channelization, damming, diversion, or dredging of any natural watercourse or the construction or enlargement of any canal (currently prohibits such grants). Increases from 6.5 percent to 7.5 percent the minimum unemployment rate necessary to qualify a State for a special allocation of set-aside funds for local public works programs. Extends to December 23, 1983, the date by which grant applications must be received by the Secretary of Commerce. Authorizes appropriations for FY 1983 and following years.
