A bill to amend section 232 of the National Housing Act to include fire safety equipment among the items which may be covered by an insured mortgage thereunder, to require (as a condition of eligibility for mortgage insurance) that a nursing home or intermediate care facility comply with the Life Safety Code, and to authorize insured loans to provide fire safety equipment for such a home or facility.

Summary

Includes fire safety equipment among the items which may be covered by an insured mortgage for nursing homes or intermediate care facilities under the National Housing Act. Prohibits the insurance of mortgages for such nursing homes or intermediate care facilities unless the facilities meet the appropriate requirements of the Life Safety Code of the National Fire Protection Association. Sets limits on insured loans for fire safety equipment at $50,000 maximum, and requires compliance with such other terms and conditions as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development may prescribe.
