Summary

Federal Timber Sales Act of 1979 - Authorizes the Secretaries of Agriculture and of the Interior to set aside a fair proportion of the total sales of timber from Federal lands for preferential award to small wood products concerns. Authorizes the Secretaries to set aside a portion of salvage sales for preferential award to firms with 25 or fewer employees. Requires the Secretaries, where necessary to promote the utilization of scattered, insect-infested, diseased, dead, damaged, or down timber, to adopt procedures to encourage individuals or small firms to seek out such timber in the forest. Permits the Secretaries to sell such timber without advertisement.
