Summary
Establishes the United States Design Council in the Department of Commerce. Directs the Council to: (1) establish and publicize voluntary standards for excellence in the design of objects and systems; (2) implement programs to educate U.S. enterprisers and the public to the value of design excellence; (3) coordinate design activities with other agencies; (4) develop a repository of information on various aspects of design; (5) promote courses and careers in design; (6) acquire membership in international design associations; and (7) cooperate with State, local, and private agencies concerned with excellence in design. Requires the Council to carry out a broad program of planning, coordination, and public education to implement this Act and to report to the President and Congress annually on its activities and recommendations.
