Summary

Amends title XVIII (Medicare) of the Social Security Act to cover, on an assigned basis, the services of registered nurses as assistants at surgery under part B (Supplementary Medical Insurance) of the Medicare program. Directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to report to the Congress by April 1, 1989, concerning the adjustment of part B payments so that such payments approximate the costs of the services of physician assistants and registered nurses as assistants at surgery.
