American Heritage Areas Partnership Program Act of 1994

Summary

American Heritage Areas Partnership Program Act of 1993 - Establishes the American Heritage Partnership Program within the Department of the Interior. Authorizes the Secretary of the Interior to: (1) evaluate combinations of resources best preserved, interpreted, and managed as American Heritage Areas under a partnership model; and (2) evaluate areas nominated for designation as American Heritage Areas (in accordance with criteria set forth under this Act); (3) advise States and their political subdivisions on appropriate methods of recognizing and preserving thematically and geographically linked cultural, historic, natural, and recreational resources; (4) provide technical assistance for nominating areas for inclusion in the Program and grants for developing management plans for designated areas and for capital projects and improvements pursuant to such plans; and (5) enter into contractual agreements with States and their political subdivisions specific to an American Heritage Area designated by this Act to provide limited technical assistance for the development and implementation of management plans for such Areas. Sets forth conditions under which the Congress may designate an area as an American Heritage Area. Directs the Secretary, upon designation of an Area, to enter into a contract with the State establishing Federal and State responsibilities for implementing a management plan for the Area. Sets forth capital project application requirements and funding considerations. Authorizes appropriations.
