Summary

News Media Source Protection Act - Provides that no legitimate member of the professional news media, as set forth in this Act, shall be held in contempt, or adversely prejudiced, before any grand jury, agency, department, or commission of the United States or by either House of or any committee of Congress for refusing to disclose information or communication as to news media sources, as set forth in this Act. Provides that where a person seeks disclosure of any news media information or communication from a person who may be or may have been a legitimate member of the professional news media and who refuses to make such disclosure in a proceeding before any Federal court of the United States, such person seeking disclosure may apply to a United States district court for an order providing such disclosure. Provides that such application shall be made to the district court in the district wherein there is then pending the proceeding in which the information or communication is sought. Provides that the application shall be granted only if the court, after hearing the parties, determines that the person seeking the information or communication, by clear and convincing evidence, has satisfied the requirements set forth in this Act. Defines the terms used in this Act.
