Specifically, the bill reauthorizes through FY2028 the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA's) National Integrated Drought Information System program, which coordinates drought monitoring and forecasting at the federal, tribal, state, and local levels. The bill also (1) requires NOAA to integrate advanced technology (e.g., artificial intelligence) into the program, and (2) provides statutory authority for the program's National Coordinated Soil Moisture Monitoring Network.
