Summary

Protection of Animals in Research Act - Establishes a commission to be known as the Commission for the Protection of Animals in Research which shall study and recommend alternatives to current procedures in which live animals are used experimentally in laboratory research and testing and shall evaluate the effectiveness of laboratory research and testing using such alternatives. Directs the Commission to transmit to the President and Congress annual reports which shall contain a detailed statement of the activities, findings, and conclusions of the Commission, together with its recommendations for such legislation and administrative actions as it considers appropriate. Terminates the Commission five years after the date of enactment of this Act. Authorizes to be appropriated such sums not to exceed $750,000 for each of the fiscal years 1981-1985 to carry out the purposes of this Act.
