Summary
Essential Medicines for Medicare Act of 2002 - Amends title XVIII (Medicare) of the Social Security Act (SSA) to provide for Medicare coverage of prescription drugs for treatment of certain chronic conditions. Amends SSA title XIX (Medicaid) to provide for Medicaid coverage of Medicare prescription drug cost sharing for individuals who would be qualified Medicare beneficiaries but for the fact that their income exceeds the income level established by the State but is less than 110 percent of the official poverty line for a family of the size involved in 1993 and 1994, and 120 percent in 1995 and years thereafter. Amends SSA title XVIII to: (1) authorize the Secretary of Health and Human Services to implement a program under which eligible individuals may receive disease management services; and (2) provide for coverage of such services as a part B (Supplementary Medical Insurance) benefit.
