Summary
District of Columbia Prosecutorial and Judicial Efficiency Act of 1984 - Amends the District of Columbia Self-Government and Governmental Reorganization Act to remove the limitation on the authority of the District of Columbia Council regarding enactments relating to the organization and jurisdiction of the District of Columbia courts. Provides for the permanent authority for hearing commissioners in District of Columbia courts. Raises the jurisdictional limit in the Small Claims and Conciliation Branch of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia to $1,250. Requires criminal prosecutions in the District of Columbia to be conducted in the name of the District of Columbia. Provides that an indictment may include offenses prosecutable by the District of Columbia by the Corporation Counsel. Provides that separate indictments charging offenses for prosecutions conducted by the Corporation Counsel and the United States attorney may be joined for trial if the offenses charged therein could have been joined in the same indictment. Requires an annual report by the United States attorney for the District of Columbia which details the prosecutions under the laws of the District of Columbia and the laws of the United States applicable exclusively to the District of Columbia. Directs the Corporation Counsel of the District of Columbia to detail to, and maintain in, the office of the United States attorney for the District of Columbia not less than eight assistant Corporation Counsels for periods of service in such office.
