Summary

Emergency Permit Extension Act - Extends until December 31, 1989, notwithstanding any provision of the Marine Mammal Protection Act (the Act), any permit, issued under provisions of the Act for the incidental taking of marine mammals in the course of commercial fishing, which was in effect on January 1, 1988. Directs the Secretary of Commerce to issue such a permit before December 31, 1989, to applicants meeting stated criteria. Provides for the expiration of permits extended or issued under this Act on December 31, 1989. Extends through FY 1989 the authorization of appropriations for the Department of Commerce, the Department of the Interior, and the Marine Mammal Commission for carrying out the provisions of the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972.
