Summary
Establishes within the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare the office of "Inspector General for Health Administration" to be appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate. Makes it the duty of the Inspector General to arrange for, direct, or conduct reviews, inspections, and audits of health insurance programs established by title XVIII of the Social Security Act (Medicare), and any other programs of health care established under such Act. Authorizes the Inspector General to suspend any regulation, practice or procedure employed in the administration of any program with respect to which he has responsibilities under this Act if he determines that: (1) suspensions will promote efficiency or economy; or (2) such practice is contrary to applicable provisions of law. Directs the Inspector General to furnish the Committee on Ways and Means of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Finance of the Senate any information requested. Authorizes to be appropriated such sums as are necessary to carry out the purposes of this Act.
