A bill to authorize any bank holding company to acquire control of banks and any national bank to establish branches throughout the standard metropolitan statistical area in which such bank holding company or national bank is located.

Summary

Allows any national banking association, with the approval of the Comptroller of the Currency, to establish and operate new branches outside the State in which the association is located if: (1) such location is within the same standard metropolitan statistical area; and (2) the establishment and operation of such branches are specifically authorized by such other State's statute law to State banks. Amends the Bank Holding Company Act of 1956 to authorize any bank holding company to acquire interest in a bank located outside the State, but in the standard metropolitan statistical area, in which such company's banking operations are principally conducted.
