Summary

Hospital Length of Stay Act of 1999 - Amends the Public Health Service Act, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 and titles XVIII (Medicare) and XIX (Medicaid) of the Social Security Act (SSA) to require that group and individual health insurance coverage, as well as supplemental insurance policies under Medicare and managed care plans under Medicaid, provide coverage for hospital lengths of stay as determined by the attending health care provider in consultation with the patient. Provides for similar application of the amendments made above under the Public Health Service Act to other health care coverage, including that afforded to: (1) enrollees in the Federal Employees' Health Benefits Program; (2) members and certain former members of the uniformed services and their dependents; (3) veterans; (4) participants in the Children's Health Insurance Program under SSA title XXI; and (5) Indians under the Indian Health Care Improvement Act.
