Summary
Long Island Sound Protection Act - Amends the Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act to apply provisions regulating ocean dumping to the dumping of dredged material in Long Island Sound from any Federal project (or pursuant to Federal authorization) or from a dredging project by a non-Federal applicant exceeding 25,000 cubic yards if: (1) one or more projects of that type produce an aggregate of material exceeding such volume; and (2) the projects are carried out in a proximate geographical area or the aggregate quantity of material is transported, for dumping, by the same barge. Requires the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency to: (1) promulgate regulations defining "proximate geographical area"; and (2) designate, under existing provisions relating to a dumping permit program, at least one site for the dumping of dredged material generated in the vicinity of Long Island Sound. Prohibits, except at the site or sites so designated, the dumping of dredged material in the Sound after the date at least one site is designated.
