A bill to amend title 38 of the United States Code to provide that certain veterans who were prisoners of war shall be deemed to have a service-connected disability of 50 per centum; to deem certain prisoners of war to be permanently and totally disabled for the purposes of receiving wartime disability compensation; to provide hospital care and medical treatment for certain non-service-connected disabilities of former prisoners of war; to provide a 10-year presumptive period of service connection for chronic diseases of certain prisoners of war, and for other purposes.

Summary

Provides that any veteran who, while on active duty, was held as a prisoner of war for not less than six months shall be deemed to have a service-connected disability of 50 percent rated as permanent for purposes of entitlement to wartime disability compensation and other veterans benefits. Provides for a ten year presumptive period of service connection for chronic diseases of such veterans.
