National Rangelands Policy Act

Summary

National Rangelands Policy Act - Declares it to be a finding of Congress that the greater portion of the rangelands administered by the Bureau of Land Management is producing less than its potential and that, without a porgram of intensified management, such lands will deteriorate still further. States that it is the purpose of this Act to establish a program to identify the deficiencies in rangeland conditions and to plan actions to correct those deficiencies. Directs the Secretary of the Interior to develop and maintain an inventory of all rangelands administered by the Bureau of Land Management, identifying the resources and deficiencies in such lands. Directs the Secretary to develop and implement a rangeland rehabilitation and protection program to correct the deficiencies identified by the inventory and to restore the land to full productivity within 20 years. Requires the maintenance of full productive capacity after that has been achieved. Requires the Secretary to make an annual rangelands report to Congress. Authorizes the appropriation of specific amounts for the purposes of this Act for each year through fiscal year 1996.
