Summary

California Marine Sanctuary Act of 1988 - Amends the Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act of 1972 to direct the Secretary of Commerce to designate Monterey Bay, California, and Cordell Banks, California, as national marine sanctuaries. Requires the Secretary to: (1) conduct a study and report to the Congress, within two years of this Act's enactment, on the appropriateness of designating Santa Monica Bay, California, as a national marine sanctuary; and (2) designate Santa Monica Bay as a national marine sanctuary if the Secretary finds such designation to be appropriate.
