Summary
Law Enforcement Resources and Community Safety Act of 2018 This bill establishes a new obstruction of justice criminal offense for conduct related to tampering with or retaliating against a witness in state or local proceedings. Additionally, it does the following: establishes competitive grants for state, local, and tribal witness protection programs; authorizes grants to support anti-gang task forces and to hire additional career law enforcement officers to combat organized crime, and allows an existing grant program to be used to purchase personal protective equipment and detection devices for first responders who encounter opioid overdoses.
