THE VA'S FISCAL YEAR 2007 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY BUDGET THURSDAY, MARCH 2, 2006 U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, SUBCOMMITTEE ON OVERSIGHT AND INVESTIGATIONS, COMMITTEE ON VETERANS' AFFAIRS, Washington, D.C. Present: Representatives Bilirakis, Strickland, Reyes, and Buyer. MR. BILIRAKIS. Good morning. Today we will examine the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) information technology (IT) budget and review VA's IT expenses. It is certainly, as you know, not new to the Committee, nor is it new to the Subcommittee. However, this year we have for the first time a line-item breakdown of the VA's IT budget. Previously we would have to look at over 50 areas of the budget to figure out the Department's IT budget. On November 30 of last year, the President signed fiscal year 2006 Military Quality of Life and Veterans' Affairs Appropriation Act (PL 109-114), which included in the conference report
