Summary
Supports the people of the Togolese Republic in their desire for free elections and a democratic government. Calls on Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to encourage the Government of Togo and the Togolese people to seek a peaceful transition to a democratically elected government. Recognizes the positive steps taken by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and encourages ECOWAS to continue monitoring and promoting democracy in Togo and in its other member countries. Encourages the African Union, the international community, and recognized international organizations to monitor the presidential elections and post-election activities in Togo. Requests the Department of State to determine the legitimacy of the April 2005 elections.
