Summary

Expresses the sense of the Congress that: (1) the Chinese Government should immediately release all those detained for the peaceful exercise of their fundamental human rights, and should publicize the names of those arrested, and reasons for their detention, in connection with the recent protests; (2) the President should inform the Chinese leadership that resumption of normal relations with China, as well as China's eligibility for Most Favored Nation trading status, will depend on that government's releasing such detainees, entering into negotiations with leaders of the country's student democratic movement, and restoration of basic human rights; and (3) the United Nations General Assembly and Security Council should condemn the repressive actions by the Chinese Government and army and urge the communist party to open discussions with the political opposition.
