Summary

The bill protects valuable agricultural land and limits its use for other purposes. The concept of agricultural land and the array of valuable agricultural land of national and local importance is defined. An obligation to preserve valuable agricultural land is established and restrictions are imposed on building there. Building on agricultural land of national importance is generally not permitted. Under certain conditions or with the permission of the Board of Agriculture however, it is allowed. Local government decides on valuable agricultural land of local importance. The law is planned to enter into force on January 1, 2019. The restrictions protecting valuable agricultural land will come into effect one year after the law enters into force, i.e. after valuable agricultural land of national importance has been designated. At the same time, amendments to the Subsoil Act and the Planning Act will also apply
