Data on children awaiting specialist SEND placements

United Kingdom · UK Parliament · 12 October 2026

That this House expresses concern that the Government does not collect data on the number of children with an Education, Health and Care Plan awaiting a specialist school placement; notes that, in response to Written Parliamentary Question 26866, the Government confirmed that it does not hold this information; believes that accurate data on the number of children requiring specialist SEND provision is vital to understanding the scale of unmet need and informing effective national policy and long-term planning; welcomes the Government’s commitment to increased funding for SEND provision, but notes that without knowing how many children require specialist support it is impossible to properly assess whether funding levels are appropriate; and calls on the Government to begin systematically collecting and publishing this data.

Local authority reimbursement for costs associated to families with no recourse to public funds

United Kingdom · UK Parliament · 12 October 2026

That this House notes the financial pressures placed on local authorities arising from their statutory duties to support families with children who have no recourse to public funds, where assistance is required to prevent destitution; further notes concerns raised by Thurrock Council regarding the significant costs incurred in providing such support; recognises that these costs can place considerable strain on local authority budgets and reduce resources available for local residents and essential public services; believes that councils should not be expected to bear unfunded costs resulting from national immigration policy; and calls on the Government to reimburse Thurrock Council and all other local authorities for expenditure incurred in providing statutory support to families who otherwise have no recourse to public funds, funded by reducing the foreign aid budget, and to review the funding arrangements to ensure that such costs are met by central Government rather than local taxpayers.

Border security at Ceuta and Melilla and the security of Gibraltar

United Kingdom · UK Parliament · 1 September 2026

That this House expresses grave concern at attempts by large numbers of migrants to breach the borders of the Spanish autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla; reaffirms the importance of maintaining secure international borders and respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of allied nations; believes that any deliberate attempt to weaponise irregular migration against a neighbouring state represents a serious threat to regional security; further believes that these events underline the strategic importance of ensuring the continued security and resilience of Gibraltar; calls on the Government to offer Spain any appropriate assistance requested to strengthen border security and restore order; further calls for a full international investigation into any evidence of state involvement in facilitating or encouraging attempts to breach the borders, including allegations that individuals may have been transported or otherwise assisted for the purpose of destabilisation; and urges the Government to work with international partners to ensure that any state found to have deliberately orchestrated or supported such actions faces appropriate diplomatic consequences.

Reducing emigration of young, skilled British citizens

United Kingdom · UK Parliament · 16 December 2025

That this House notes with concern that of the 255,000 British citizens who emigrated last year, 176,000 were aged 16 to 34, accounting for 99 per cent of the net outflow; recognises that the loss of young, skilled and UK-trained workers represents a serious drain on national talent and investment; further notes that high taxes, pressures on public services and sustained low-skilled migration are suppressing opportunities for young people to build secure and successful futures in the UK; and calls on the Government to take urgent action to improve economic competitiveness, strengthen domestic opportunities, and ensure that migration and workforce policies support the retention of UK-trained talent.
