United Kingdom · UK Parliament · 21 October 2026
That this House welcomes the end of the uncertainty for businesses and households across the North East of Scotland following the UK Government’s decision to license new drilling at the Jackdaw gas field in the North Sea; stresses that the economic benefits of new drilling at Jackdaw must be felt by local communities now and for decades to come; recognises the need for domestic production of critical resources and the associated smaller carbon impact of these against international imports and their associated market volatility, and the resulting impact on household energy costs; and therefore calls on the Government to commit to use this opportunity as a turning point, to fund critical long-term green energy projects in Scotland and specifically the North East, such as the Acorn Project at St Fergus using funding allocated within the UK Government’s announced Energy Wealth Fund and denounces past, failed UK Government approaches to Scottish energy resources, which often plugged Treasury funding gaps at the expense of Scotland.
