Following the cutting of the Winter Fuel allowance I believe that MPs Energy allowance should also be cut from the £3400 to ZERO as they don't meet any of the conditions applied to the pensioners The general public cover all costs for there Energy but MPs are allowed to claim upto £3400/annum whilst being salaried at £91,000. In line with the winter fuel allowance the MPs should have there £3400 allowance removed.

Ban energy companies from charging the daily standing charge for gas and electricity. We believe it’s an unfair ‘charge’ and the energy companies do nothing that warrants this charge. I want the government to ban what we feel is an unfair and unwarranted daily charge because we think it represents a tax on our energy bills, and forces up the payments on people who use least energy.

Energy Bills in the UK are some of the highest in Europe & at the same time the Energy Firms continue to make large profits Introduce an Annual Windfall Tax on the most profitable firms & use the money to provide support to elderly or vulnerable people not in receipt of the Winter Fuel Allowance. We think no one should be cold during the winter months in the UK in 2024. Whilst the Winter Fuel Allowance does provide assistance to some of the poorest pensioners, we think the current cut off means that others will still struggle to pay their bills & heat their homes adequately. We think other people who are below state pension age, some with children, are in the same situation.

Standing charges are applied regardless of usage and disproportionately affect low-energy users. Instead, we think the Government should require energy companies to include the cost in the unit price. We think this would ensure large users pay more and small users pay less. Standing charges have risen, which we think leaves consumers with limited control over their energy bills. We think this unfair system exacerbates the cost of living crisis and reduces incentives to cut energy consumption / CO2 footprint. By making costs fully variable, we think users would have more control over their bills and be encouraged to reduce energy use, helping both their finances and the environment.
