Summary

That this House supports Islamophobia Awareness Month, which takes place this November; recognises the immense contributions that British Muslims make to every part of national life, including public service, the NHS, business, culture and sport; acknowledges that Islamophobia remains far too prevalent in our society, affecting people in their workplaces, schools, places of worship and online; notes with concern that organisations monitoring Islamophobia incidents continue to record high levels of abuse, with women who wear the hijab and mosques and Muslim institutions frequently targeted; emphasises the importance of standing up to religious hatred in all its forms; and calls on the Government to ensure that public bodies, including the police, schools and local authorities, have the resources and training they need to identify and prevent hate crimes, and to work closely with Muslim communities to tackle Islamophobia and build trust and greater community cohesion.
